Muscle Adhesion
Dr. Phipps is a fully certified Integrative Diagnosis provider and an expert at diagnosing and conservatively treating musculoskeletal pain. Musculoskeletal pain includes pain associated with muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and nerves. Most commonly, musculoskeletal pain is caused by muscle adhesion.
Adhesion can form in muscles, ligaments, or tendons and can even form between a muscle and nerve causing tingling into your hands or feet. Adhesion will act like glue in a muscle, causing it to not stretch or contract properly. As a result, the muscles will be weaker and less flexible, altering the normal function of a joint and causes pain.
Adhesion will form from over-use and repetitive environments. Sustained positions such as, standing and sitting will trigger adhesion formation. Repetitive tasks such as typing or computer work, running, swimming, walking, gripping, working out, etc. will also trigger adhesion formation. In most cases, adhesion will also form from trauma (car accident, fall, tear, etc.)
Dr. Phipps uses Manual Adhesion Release (MAR) and Instrument Adhesion Release (IAR) to break up the adhesions (MAR and IAR are noninvasive hands on techniques). Once the adhesion has broken down, the flexibility and strength of the muscle is restored. This will allow the joint to move normally and reduce your pain.
